Friends of Smyrna Library
About the Friends

Neighbors who decided the library was worth protecting.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, entirely volunteer-run, dedicated to promoting the interest and welfare of the Smyrna Public Library as a cultural, educational, and recreational asset for everyone.

Our purpose

Why we exist

Public libraries do extraordinary work on modest budgets. The Friends exist to close the gap between what a library is funded to do and what a community actually needs it to be.

We raise money through memberships, used book sales, and gifts. We put that money directly into programs, materials, and events. And we distribute books to community organizations so the love of reading reaches well beyond our walls.

What your support funds

  • Children's and summer reading programs
  • Author visits and community events
  • New books, materials, and technology
  • Books donated to local organizations
  • The gatherings that make the library a hub
Our story

A quiet tradition, kept alive.

1987

A handful of Smyrna readers form the Friends to give the library a dedicated source of support.

Since then

Decades of book sales, memberships, and gifts have funded programs the library budget could never reach on its own.

Today

A volunteer board and a growing membership keep the tradition going, one book and one neighbor at a time.
